Momoko Yoshida (b. 1989) graduated from the Department of Oil Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts in 2014, and completed the master’s program in Painting at the university’s Graduate School of Fine Arts in 2016. She envisions a parallel-reality-like world, depicting scenes where nostalgia and curiosity about the future intersect. Accompanied by a resonance of self-dissolution, youthful figures emerge in alternative realms, serving as projections of her own yearnings, desires, and fetishism. These characters, as fluid beings, blur the boundaries between nationality, gender, reality and virtuality, and the two-dimensional and three-dimensional. Through her obsession with idealized memories of the past and a multidimensional perspective, she explores the nested structure of personal narratives, reconstructing her own life as a fiction in the making. In her creative process, she first records envisioned scenes with three-dimensional models and video, then extracts single frames as the basis for her paintings; through multi-stage transformation, she distances herself from the everyday and delves deeply into the self within an imaginative world. In the present era, when identities become increasingly complex in the information society, she regards her works as contemporary portraits, presenting alternative visions of reality.

Momoko Yoshida (b. 1989) works primarily with oil on canvas, acrylic, and collage, creating paintings that blend figurative art with a cartoon-like, romantic, and expressively figurative sensibility. Her practice revolves around themes of feminism, emotion, identity, dreams, and the body.
Yoshida constructs a parallel-reality universe in which nostalgia and curiosity about the future intersect. The young, ambiguous figures inhabiting her pictures act as projections of her own longings, desires, and fetishes—beings that blur the boundaries between nationality, gender, reality and fiction, two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. She often begins by staging a scene as a three-dimensional model and recording it on video, then extracts a single frame as the basis for a painting, a multi-step process that distances the image from daily life and allows her to delve into an imagined world. In an era of increasingly complex identities, she presents these works as contemporary portraits that offer an alternative vision of reality.
Representative works include *Our Realm II* (2024, acrylic and oil on canvas), *Under the Thatched Roof III* (2026, acrylic and oil on canvas), and *Under the Thatched Roof IV* (2026, acrylic on canvas).
