Peng Si (b. 1980) is a Chinese artist whose practice merges figurative and imagistic modes. His representative works include recent oil-on-canvas series such as *Yaoyao* (曜曜, 2021–2022), *Heat Death* (热寂, 2023), *Melting* (熔 series, 2022), and *Rong Cai No. 1* (熔裁 NO.1, 2024). These pieces exemplify his mature visual language: dense, layered compositions that hover between representation and abstraction, often evoking natural landscapes, atmospheric phenomena, or inner emotional states.
Peng’s creative style is rooted in a dialogue with Eastern philosophy and a keen sensitivity to materiality. He works primarily in oil painting but also employs calligraphy and printmaking techniques. His earlier academic training at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (printmaking department) informs his rigorous approach to texture and mark-making, while his thematic range—spanning memory, time, ecology, and human emotion—imbues the work with a meditative, almost poetic resonance. Over the past few years, his palette has grown more intense, and his compositions more dynamic, as seen in the luminous, turbulent surfaces of the *Yaoyao* and *Heat Death* paintings, where energy and stillness coexist. Together, these qualities define a style that is both deeply introspective and formally adventurous.
