王光乐

Wang Guangle was born in Fujian in 1976, graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2000, and currently lives and works in Beijing. His artistic practice centers on “temporality,” and through a series of works he sediments the philosophical dimension and the texture inherent in time itself. In his painting process, by applying layers upon layers of pigment on canvas, he not only solidifies the passing of time but also transforms time into a pure, meditative language. His paintings have been featured in many important exhibitions in China and abroad, including the California-Pacific Triennial (2013), Busan Biennale (2010), and Prague Biennale (2009). Internationally renowned institutions he has collaborated with include the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, CAFA Art Museum, Today Art Museum, Minsheng Art Museum, National Art Museum of China, Long Museum (Shanghai), Taikang Space (Beijing), Ludwig Museum (Germany), Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Museion (Bolzano, Italy), White Rabbit Gallery (Sydney, Australia), Asian Art Museum (USA), and the Rubell Family Collection and Contemporary Arts Foundation (USA), among others. Recent solo exhibitions include “Wang Guangle: Waves” at Beijing Commune, Beijing (2021) and “Wang Guangle: Dual Colors” at Pace Gallery, New York (2019). Other significant solo shows include “Shou Qi” at aye gallery, Beijing (2007); “Hanyu” at Onemoon Art Gallery, Beijing (2005); “Wang Guangle Solo Exhibition” at Beijing Commune (2009, 2011); and “Wang Guangle in Taiwan” at Soka Art Center, Taipei (2011).
