曾健勇（Zeng Jianyong）1971年出生于广东澄海，1994年毕业于华侨大学艺术系中国画专业，1995年结业于中央美术学院版画助教进修班，现工作生活于北京。早期作品以儿童肖像为主，跳脱水墨的传统主题，发展出个人独特的新水墨风格，善于探索精神层面的具象化，以各式隐喻与社会性符号提出思辨。他探索从中国传统绘画中提取出规则，以此来观察和表现自然，从而获得新的自由。其创作延续了中国传统山水画的“三远”构图，同时运用与国画相关的手工纸、墨和水彩等材料，以独特技法创作。近年的创作从带有超现实主义色彩的场景绘画，转向更为综合、宏大的“绘画剧场”，愈来愈摆脱特定题材的限制，转向对绘画本体，特别是绘画空间的研究，探讨水墨在空间中展开的可能性。
Zeng Jianyong was born in 1971 in Chenghai, Guangdong. He graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Art Faculty of Huaqiao University in 1994, and completed a printmaking assistant teaching programme at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1995. He currently works and lives in Beijing. His early works focused on children’s portraits, breaking away from traditional ink painting themes to develop a distinctive personal style of new ink art. He excels at giving concrete form to spiritual dimensions, employing diverse metaphors and social symbols to provoke critical reflection. He explores extracting principles from traditional Chinese painting as a means to observe and represent nature, thereby attaining new freedom. His compositions extend the “three distances” perspective of classical Chinese landscape painting, while using handmade papers, ink, watercolour and other materials associated with guohua (Chinese painting), executed with unique techniques. In recent years, his practice has shifted from scenes tinged with surrealism toward more integrated and expansive “painting theatre,” increasingly moving beyond the constraints of specific subject matter to investigate painting itself, especially pictorial space, and to explore the possibilities of ink unfolding in space.
