这是他在画廊的第四次个展,将于Gallery I、II 与 III 双层空间呈现其近期创作的十余件绘画作品。
侯子超的创作持续围绕风景展开,他笔下的景观很少对应某个真实存在的地点,而更像是不同经验留下的残片。旅行途中掠过的山脉,社交媒体上的截图,童年记忆中的火山,以及一些难以确认来源的图像,共同进入绘画。它们在不断覆盖和移动中,形成一种始终处于变化中的风景。
在“太阳山”中,喷发与沉寂、白昼与夜晚同时停留在画面之中。不同时间和地域的片段彼此重叠,一些微小的信号、光亮和纪念物散落其间。它既不像回忆,也并非预言,更像某种无法确认来源的情绪,在寂静中缓慢扩散。
这些作品延续了侯子超对绘画生成过程的关注。这种生成并不指向“技法展示”,而更接近于对图像如何同时被建构与削弱的持续观察。喷涂、滚刷、镂空版和笔触共同留下痕迹,彼此叠加,也彼此显现。图像在覆盖与露出之间慢慢形成,没有被固定为某种确定的结构。与此同时,展览空间中的文字、图例与方向符号也共同参与了这一生成。它们并不解释绘画,而是在作品之间建立起另一种阅读风景的方式。
“太阳山”未必是一座真实存在的山。它更像一种持续存在的想象。喷发、沉寂、白昼与夜晚共同停留在那里,一些微弱的光亮始终没有熄灭。

SPURS Gallery is pleased to announce A Sun Mountain, artist Hou Zichao’s fourthsolo exhibition with the gallery. Opening on July 4, 2026, it presents over a dozenrecent paintings across the gallery’s three dedicated spaces, Gallery I, II, and III.Hou Zichao’s painting practice continues to revolve around landscape, yet thescenes he depicts rarely correspond to any actual location. Instead, they resemblefragments left behind by various experiences: mountain ranges glimpsed duringtravels, screenshots from social media, volcanoes from childhood memory, andimages whose origins are difficult to trace. These elements enter the canvases allat once, and through constant overlaying and shifting, they form a landscape thatremains perpetually in flux.
In A Sun Mountain, eruption and dormancy, day and night, coexist. Fragments ofdifferent times and geographies overlap, scattered with subtle signals, glimmersof light, and mementos. It resembles neither memory nor prophecy, but rather anemotion whose source cannot be identified, slowly diffusing in silence.
This new body of work extends Hou Zichao’s focus on the process of a painting'sformation. It does not point to mere techniques, but rather approaches asustained observation of how images are simultaneously constructed anddissolved. Spray guns, rollers, stencils, and brushstrokes each leave their mark,layering over and revealing one another. The image gradually takes shapethrough covering and exposing, never fixed into a definitive structure. The texts,graphics, and directional signs contribute to this generative process. Insteadof serving as explanations, they suggest an alternative way of reading thelandscape across the works.
A Sun Mountain may not be a real mountain. It is more like a persistent imaginary—one where eruption and dormancy, day and night, remain together, and wherefaint lights never die out.
The exhibition runs through August 16, 2026.
