吴华衡，中国当代艺术家。其作品画面造型大体吸取中国传统山水花鸟简笔处理方式，但更简洁和观念化，通过似是而非的山水或其他形状的处理，避免滑向抽象主义，而获得与山形等造型相关的联想与力量感。艺术家采用边缘线强调的硬边方法，并一层层不厌其烦地厚涂处理，使画面空白部分与黑色部分形成鲜明对比：空白少的画面更逼仄，空白多的更空旷、苍白与寂寥，黑色部分因此更强烈沉重，整体营造出“透不过来气”的突出感觉。2025年，吴华衡在LCE GALLERY举办个展“空白的黑”。
Wu Huaheng is a Chinese contemporary artist. The compositional forms in his works broadly draw on the simplified brushwork of traditional Chinese landscape and flower-and-bird painting, yet are rendered even more concise and conceptually charged. Through the treatment of ambiguous, seemingly landscape-derived or other shapes, he avoids slipping into abstraction while evoking associations with mountain-like forms and a sense of strength. The artist employs a hard-edge method that emphasizes contour lines, patiently applying layer after layer of thick paint, so that the blank and black areas of the picture form a stark contrast: paintings with less blank space feel more cramped, while those with more blank space appear vast, pallid, and desolate, making the black areas correspondingly more intense and weighty, and generating an overarching, pronounced feeling of being “unable to breathe.” In 2025, Wu Huaheng held the solo exhibition “Blank Black” at LCE GALLERY.

Wu Huahang is a Chinese contemporary artist. His representative works include *Black Stone and River White* (《黑石与河白》, 2021), *Black and White Stone* (《黑白石》, 2021), *Reading No. 1* (《阅读之一》, 2023), *Quiet Mountain* (《静山》, 2023), and works from the *Ink Realm* (《墨境》) and *Quiet Mountain* (《静山》) series, among others.
His creative style draws on the simplified brushwork of traditional Chinese landscape and flower-and-bird painting, but pushes it toward a more concise and conceptual approach. Through ambiguous mountain-like or other shapes, he avoids slipping into pure abstraction while retaining the associative power and sense of form related to mountainous imagery. He uses hard-edge outlining and repeated, patient layering of dense pigment, creating a strong contrast between blank and black areas. In compositions with less blank space, the picture feels more compressed; where blank space dominates, it feels more open, pale, and desolate, making the black areas appear even heavier and more intense, and giving the work an overall suffocating or “hard to breathe” quality. In 2025, Wu Huahang held the solo exhibition “The Black of Blankness” at LCE GALLERY.
